Connections 12 Steps

 (ESV Bible verses)

  1. We admit that we are powerless over life’s troubles and that our lives have become unmanageable.

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.” (Rom. 7:18)

  1. We believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity.

For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure”

(Phil. 2:13)

  1. We decide to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Rom. 12:1)

  1. We conduct a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord.” (Lam. 3:40)

  1. We admit to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another,  that you may be healed.” (Js. 5:16)

  1. We are entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.” (Js. 4:10)

  1. We humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I Jn. 1:9)

  1. We complete a list of all persons we have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all.

“And as you wish that others  would do to you, do so to them.” (Lk. 6:31)

  1. We make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

“So if you are offering your gift at the alter and there remember that your brother  has something against you, leave your gift at the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” (Mt. 5:23-24)

  1. We continue to take personal inventory and promptly admit our wrongs.

“Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.” (I Cor. 10:12)

  1. We seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Let the word of Christ dwell with you richly.” (Col. 3:16)

  1. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we carry this message to others and practice these principles in all our affairs.

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too  be tempted.” (Gal. 6:1)
